I'm also going to have the rival character tell the player that they can buy a bike their as soon as the player unlocks the area. The building to the far right of the map, next to the roadblock'd road is a bike store that sells a bike for $1000, since I wanted the player to have to walk slowly through the city on their first time in (they start at the harbour to the north west), then can get the bike quickly with minimal exploration. Since you can see the massive airport and other parts of the town from the roads to the left and above it, you can see the other cooler parts of town before you actually unlock them, which was my intention. The reason I started it so big was that I had the idea of having one huge hub town (and a few mini-residences that are unlocked by story moments) that slowly unlocks over time, like Lumiose City from X and Y, rather than lots of small towns.
